I was slightly in shock when I saw this post on Yahoo!
According to city officials, statistics say that over 7.000 teens will get pregnant by the time they are 17 and almost half of them choose to get an abortion.
The New York Department of Education is going to be making the morning after pill called, Plan B available to young girls as young as the age of 13 to more than 50 public high schools, and get this... the teens will not have to speak to the parents/guardians to get their consent.
Nurse practitioners or physicians dispense the pills, Plan B, which is an emergency contraception that is about 90% effective at preventing pregnancy if taken within 72 hours after unprotected sex.
There is a way to stop your child from being able to the pill and that will be by signing an "opt out" form which states that they do not want their children to receive the drugs. Only about 1 to 2 percent of parents have opted out, according to the city Health Department.
The interesting thing is that a youth has to ask for parental permission to get an aspirin but the Morning After Pill is available to them, no questions asked? Wow...
"In the 2011-12 school year, 576 girls got the pills at the 13 added schools," said Deborah Kaplan, an assistant health commissioner.
Do you think this will make the youth think it is ok to have sex at such a young age? Do you think it is safe?
