IN THE MIND OF A TEENAGE FASHIONISTA (Diary) #19: "I Ran the Night!!!"

Dear Fashion Diary,

After my journey that took all day to New york City (I can only blame SEPTA!!!), I finally arrived at “We Run the Night” Fashion Industry Networking Mixer planned by some of my close fashion friends, Eboyne Jackson of Divine Influence PR and Jessica Lynn of J'Lynn Design Agency. These young women are makinga great name for themselve in the fashion industry and I was glad to show my support of their first event. Special guest of the evening was Emily B. of Love and Hip Hop ATL. I unfortunately missed seeing her but I hear that she was very nice and down to earth.

When I arrived into the building, I was pleasantly greeted with a room packed wall-to-wall with fashionista and fashionistos that were eager to mingle, network, and listen to experts in the fashion industry whom had their finger on the pulse of the fashion world.

IN THE MIND OF A TEENAGE FASHIONISTA (Diary) #20 : A Position of Power is NOT in Your Booty (THE TWERK TEAM)

Dear Fashion Diary,

Just recently I had a conversation with a few of my fellow teenagers and we somehow got into the new hash tags on twitter. They brought up the latest  conversation of #TWEARKTEAM.

“Have yall ever heard of the TWERK TEAM?” my girl friend, India asked.

I was puzzled, but I had an idea what it could be… I knew that it was something with girls, but I did not know much about it so I asked just to be sure.

“It is this new hashtag that girls are putting on their Twitter pages and they are just a mess.”

“What makes them a mess? What are they doing?” I asked.

“Well, they are spending their time in front of the camera shaking their butts for no apparent reason” my girlfriend continued.

A guy friend asked, “Well, how do you know they are messy? Can’t they just be dancing?”

IN THE MIND OF A TEENAGE FASHIONISTA (Diary) #18: The Fashion Funhouse was so entertaining!!!

I had a really great time with my little sisters as I attended the Fashion Fun House show that was produced Ace Reel Studio. This show is created for the young women that participated in the modeling program in order to inspire young women who are interested in fashion and to keep them safe from the streets. I love that about the program.

The highlights of the show:

The venue, The Pegasus Room was a really nice and clean environment that was perfect for an event like the Fashion Fun House. I have my eye on the place for something that I have brewing.

IN THE MIND OF A TEENAGE FASHIONISTA (Diary) #17: "Appearance vs Personality"

Dear Fashion Diary,

"Beauty is only skin deep..." is a saying that always stands true in my mind.

Why? Well, I have seen girls and met many absolutely beautiful women and young ladies that were extremely fashionable and had a reputation in the fashion industry to be fierce! I mean, they have fashion on their side, but once I got more familiar with their personality, I was disappointed because they were not what I expected them to be... they were not as beautiful as they appreared on the outside.

On the other hand, I met young women and more mature women who were not the most fashionable, and not considered beautiful (according to society's standard), but having a conversation with them made me enjoy them and see the beauty that is truly within and shines right on through!

With that being said, I think that I am more into personailty than appearance because not matter how rich or poor, gorgeous or average, or stylish you are, how your are as a person is what matters most at the end of the day.

So this had me curious what is your opinion? Do you agree with me? What is more important to you: appearance or personality? Comment below!

Until next time, I'm fashionably out,

IN THE MIND OF A TEENAGE FASHIONISTA (Diary) #16: Interview Experience!

Dear Fashion Diary,

Yesterday I was interviewed for the Examiner by Phillip Stokes, one of my fabulous fashion friends. What was the topic? Men's Fashion!

Men's fashion is really something I don't really think about often except when it comes to my dad and he is a really good dresser and I usually like what he wears. He is usually simple and clean wearing graphic tees and loose fitting jeans that are not too baggy which makes him look mature and professional.

Just a month ago, I went  suit shopping with my dad and that was an eye-opening experience for me.  I thought that when guys shopped they could simply grab something in their size and keep it moving.. I had no idea how the styling for men really went down!!!

Dear Fashion Diary,

I have been a busy bee, an army ant, you name the creature and I am busy like it! I have been going to school, attending events, hosting red carpets, writing for the blog, and taping pilots for two shows with one more in the works!

IN THE MIND OF A TEENAGE FASHIONISTA (Diary) #13: Confidence from within...

Me all natural and full of confidence! :)

Me all natural and full of confidence! :)

con·fi·dence

Noun:
  1. The feeling or belief that one can rely on someone or something; firm trust.
  2. The state of feeling certain about the truth of something.

Confidence is not the way you snap your fingers or cussing someone out because you "keep it real"!

Confidence is when you are able to know how to express yourself clearly and maturely. Why do I bring this up? Well, as long as shows like the "Basketball Wives" and "Love and Hip Hop" exist, this will be a topic that continues to come up.

So on March 23, 3012 I attended a really cool networking event for bloggers at the new Venue 4605 in Philly, PA. The venue is very low key and almost hard to detect, but once my mom and I figured it out, we were at the right place, we were ready to network.

It was nice to finally meet the face to the name Zsavon Ramseur, she is the manager of Venue 4605, the lovely host of the evening, and the founder of Simply Z Events. She brought together some really great new bloggers and vets (like me! LOL) and it was just a really down-to-earth atmosphere.

Although there were not a lot of people, it was enough to fill the social gap and make connections that could last a lifetime.

MY SEWING REALITY: The Introduction...

I have always had a love for the art of sewing! It is amazing to see what a designer/seamstress can do with a simple peice of fabric and it is also interesting to think about the fact that everyone has their own designing style.

Saturday, I began a new chapter in my fashion world. I am now getting professional sewing lessons. Yes, I did know how to do simple sewing techniques, but now I am learning how to eventually create my own sewing designs that one day I may be able to share with all of you! With all that said I am happy to introduce "My Sewing Reality"!

What is my sewing reality? Well, it is like my "blogairy" of my sewing journey. For 13 weeks, I will be journaling my sewing experience with Blu and Dahlia, owners of the non-profit organization Breakfree and owners of the cool fashion boutique, The Red House. Here I will show your pictures of my creations, quick tips I learned, and overall my experience making the items that I will be adding to my clothing collection!

I hope that enjoy my journey and that it inspires you to make a move on what you love to do!
