EVENT: The Philadelphia Natural Hair Care Show

On May 4, 2013, I had the opportunity to visit the Natural Hair Show in Philadelphia, PA and it was definitely an interesting experience. The Philadelphia Natural Hair Show was created to assist women who have chosen to adopt a natural and healthy hair lifestyle. The vision is for women to have an unequivocal love for the hair they were given. This was definitely felt as my mom, sisters and I walked through the crowd of beautiful women who adorned many different styles and had many different textures of natural hair. You could see locks, curls and twist from one corner of the room to the next. Even the women who wore their hair closely shaven were there rocking their baldy like a priceless jewel. It was interesting to walk through the marketplace as there were so many natural hair care products to choose from that I didn't know where to start. I had the chance to meet one of my past Walk the Talk Exclusive Fashion Event sponsors, Mixxed Chicks; Herbal Body Blessings from Virginia had really great natural products for the hair and body that smelled so good and felt like butter rubbed on the skin; and I met two positive authors, Cheron K. Griffin (3PM) and Dionne Peart (Somerset Grove). I had a few dollars in my pocket and I was hoping to shop for a few unique products but unfortunately, there were not a lot of clothing and accessory lines but the hair care products were abundant! I wish there was a few natural or healthy food vendors since I was starving…LOL.

Women were empowered with education from top leading hair care providers in Philadelphia that included Duafe Holistic Hair and The Weave Bar so that women would understand the importance of maintaining a healthy head of hair, how to transition from processed hair to natural hair, and how to show love for your tresses. Overall, it was a fun experience and I had a good time meeting new people, sharing hair experiences and learning more about how to maintain that perfect mane. I look forward to the next event in 2014. To learn more about the Philadelphia Natural Hair Show, visit: www.phillynaturalhairshow.com

Fashionista YES or Fashionista NO???- Rodnik Band (@TheRodnikBand) POP Britain Collection

The Urinal Dress

Some dresses are made as art and some dresses are made for fun. Then there are others…lol Here a few dresses that will either make you smile, laugh or ask what the heck were they thinking.

The Nude Dress

The Hermit Crab Dress

The Fish and Chips Dress

The designer, Philip Colbert, states that the label is inspired by developments in the modern art world, in particular the work of Marcel Duchamp and the Pop Art movement. 'The Rodnik Band' label is presented as a pop band rather than a traditional fashion label. The collection is a unique amalgamation of music, art and fashion which combines three closely associated genres to create a unique fashion concept. The designs that you see come from his POP Britain Collection which presents a British pop art inspired series of sequin dresses, with references including: Beefeaters, Double Decker Buses, pink phone box's, Boiled Eggs, Fish & Chips, pints of Beer, and even the British seaside. Let’s be clear: there are a few pieces that I would actually dare to wear like:

The Banana Dress

Mondrian Twin Dress

Lips Bag/Fried Egg Purse

It has always been my thinking (and many other real fashionistas) that fashion is an art and that as an art it should make a statement, so what kind of statement do you think that these dresses are making?

The Sunflower Dress

CELEBRITY FASHION: Fashion HITS at the 2013 Met Gala!

The Met Gala's red carpet has always been known as the Oscars for celebrity fashion. Although I was slightly disappointed to see some of my favorite celebrity stylistas fail to make my best dressed list, a lot of stylish celebrities did! Some of my favorite looks were the most simple designs with fashionable accessories with details. Below are some of the best celebrity fashion of the night and why I think they were a hit!

Diane Von Furstenberg (66 years old) looks amazing in this long and sparkly dress cover. This is what I think a mature fashion designer should look like, even the hair is on point! Disco glam!

Emma Roberts looks so fab in her Diane Von Furstenberg gown and clutch with Jennifer Fischer jewelry. It shows that a long black dress will never go out of style and simplicity with a touch of standout accessories and a detailed waist work every time.

I give Kristen Stewart the most improved award. Everyone who knows my style, knows that I love a unique jumpsuit and this made my best dressed list because I loved the style! I think this look would have been a perfect 10 with a different pair of stilettos and a waist belt to bring together the look.

YES, Cameron Diaz in Stella McCartney was a complete hit and the clean look face and hair is a plus. I don't quite agree with the spiked belt because I am so OVER the spikes, but I will give her a pass.

AMAZING! Nicole Richie was fab from head to toe. The hair color made her eyes pop! And that Topshop dress...no words.

Solange Knowles worked it out in this Kenzo. I always appreciate Solange because her look is all her...

Anna Wintour  in Chanel and Bee Shaffer look fresh and clean with their springtime dresses!

Hailee Steinfeld looked adorable and fashionable in her Donna Karan Atelier dress! What were your thoughts about the dresses? Who was on your best or worse dressed list? I am listening...

TWEETY'S STYLE: Casual Sweater + Cuffed Denim + Globe Shoes!!!

Hey Fashionistas!

Today I was felling a little blue...not sad, just blue. So I decided to put on a pair of Old Navy's and a simple short sleeved sweater that I got for a discount. To create my relaxed Street Chic, I paired it with a pair of fly heels from Shoe Republic LA and a pair of funky earrings from Venus Visuals and old pieces that I pulled out my jewelry box (ring and necklace). I love my shades by Rampage and the top bun is courtesy of my little sister, Pooka.

We were so honored to have 3rd Element Spa and Salon as one of our Walk the Talk Exclusive Fashion Event. This full service spa located in the West Oak Lane area of Philadelphia, PA is a gem when you want to relax, unwind and get the beauty treatment that you know you deserve.

In 2005, 3rd Element Spa & Salon was founded by Chyvonne and Tomika from the Philadelphia area and since its inception and humble beginnings in a 12’ by 20’ space in the rear of an existing salon, 3rd Element has grown to become West Oak Lane’s premier full service spa and salon.

Tomika, Tweety, and Chyvonne

I had the opportunity to visit the salon and it has a wonderful ambiance. As soon as you walk in you feel welcomed by the staff especially the owners, Chyvonne and Tomika. The green room where you receive your full body massage treatment is so awesome and it allows you to receive your massage alone or with a partner.

Hey Fashionistas:

So you ladies know that the look that I have been embracing for the Fall months is Street Chic. Why? Because Street Chic can be so cool and classy depending on what you wear and how you wear it. Let’s face it… Street Chic is what inspires fashion everyday (Hello! Must I remind you of Hip Hop and the 30+ years that it has affected the WORLD by the clothing, the language, and more…)

Well, I love the shirts of Urban Flrt because they are what Street Chic is all about. The Urban FLRT brand provides quality, fashionable street couture at an affordable price point.  It’s targeted towards fashionistas, entrepreneurs, moguls, jet setters and all who dress the part. We're slated to reach a status similar to Baby Phat and Phat Farm in their heyday, except with Tom Ford’s staying power.

The creator and head designer, Corey Wesley has created so many shirts that are such an awesome statement that it was hard for me to choose one, so check out the two that I wear most often.

Here is a distressed tee that was sent to me with the matching hat.

BOOK REVIEW: The Sartorialist is Fantastic!!!

Title: The Sartorialist: Closer

Author: Scott Schuman

Publisher: Penguin Group

Page Count: 512

Pub. Date: 8/28/12

ISBN: 978-0-7181943-90

The Sartorialist is an outstanding book filled with more than 500 non-discriminating and fantastic photographs of people all over the city of New York and crossing the lands and seas across the globe; featuring their unique and amazing ideas of style and fashion that makes each and every person captured in the lens of the photographer/fashion blogger, Scott Schuman, a work of art.

The cover art was completely fascinating to me because of the caramel-colored muse dressed in a teal skirt and a turquoise turban. I later found out that the greatly styled fashionista was Ni’ma Ford, a fashion stylist based in New York who has be featured on such blogs as Black Girls Killing It and Teen Vogue.com

Lovers of fashion and art will appreciate the arrangement of photos with each side-by-side photo having a relationship via bold colors, rich yet common textures, and fun patterns. In addition, each person seems to be ready to be photographed as they are dressed to their own perfection…timeless!
