I love the idea of recycling clothings and making one thing into something totally different and the RedHouse in Philadelphia, PA is the place to do it.

I had this big, disco, sequin dress that was kind of shaped like a mu-mu (big house dress) and I just swore it was going to be sharp and then i put it on...lol Oops...was I wrong! It made me look like I was wearing a dressed up nightgown.

MY SEWING REALITY: Week One- Sewing a Infinity Scarf!

Hey Fashionistas!

I am proud to say that I finished my first sewing project at the Red House, and I finished it in a matter of minutes (fashionable, neat, and swift is in!)! I could not wait to take a picture and share it all with you!

So what was the project? Well, something that I probably won't be wearing until the winter, lol! I made my own infinity scarf (a.k.a eternity scarf, circle scarf or tube scarf) and I love it! My infinity scarf is super warm and comfortable making for a perfect item to have for cold winter days.

The first thing I had to do was pick two peices of fabric which I would have to cut both into 20 inches each (folded). I choose a turquoise lace material and paired it with a bright orange fabric with a slight give (slightly stretchy).

Next, I had to sew the two fabrics (seperately) into tubes.

Lastly, I had to place the two now tube fabrics into each other and pin them together with both the tubes seams touching and sew the the fabrics together (flipped inside out). And begin sewing them all together!

Even my little sister, Pumpkin got a class on how to make a fashionable clutch. Check out her work below!

Isn't it just beautiful??? I loved her color coordination!

"I had a very great time today. I loved my bag!!! Ms. Dahlia showed me a lot of great techniques for how to gather my fabric for the front of the bag!" says Pumpkin.

Well, that was a little inside of what I have been working on in my "Sewing Reality". Let me know what you think! :)

MY SEWING REALITY: The Introduction...

I have always had a love for the art of sewing! It is amazing to see what a designer/seamstress can do with a simple peice of fabric and it is also interesting to think about the fact that everyone has their own designing style.

Saturday, I began a new chapter in my fashion world. I am now getting professional sewing lessons. Yes, I did know how to do simple sewing techniques, but now I am learning how to eventually create my own sewing designs that one day I may be able to share with all of you! With all that said I am happy to introduce "My Sewing Reality"!

What is my sewing reality? Well, it is like my "blogairy" of my sewing journey. For 13 weeks, I will be journaling my sewing experience with Blu and Dahlia, owners of the non-profit organization Breakfree and owners of the cool fashion boutique, The Red House. Here I will show your pictures of my creations, quick tips I learned, and overall my experience making the items that I will be adding to my clothing collection!

I hope that enjoy my journey and that it inspires you to make a move on what you love to do!
