GIRLS OF POWER: Fashion Gives Back!!!

Here is an actual fact: what you take from your community, you should always give back. We all come from a family that lives in a neighborhood within a city that is part of a state; which makes a country that is located on a planet that is part of the universe. Can you see where this is going? When it comes to giving back to your community, you are also contributing to your nation and the world!

Large Charities

There are many different charities in the world and some are very endearing for many reasons. According to Forbes.com, charities in the United States raise billions of dollars a year to help people all over the world. From food to saving endangered animals, people in the United States do a great deal to help their fellow man and woman. On November 8, 2012, Forbes.com reported the largest U.S. charities listing the top 10 as:

  1. United Way
  2. Salvation Army
  3. Catholic Charities
  4. Feed America
  5. American Red Cross
  6. Food for the Poor
  7. American Cancer Society
  8. World Vision
  9. YMCA
  10. Goodwill Industrial International

People are mostly endeared to these charities because families and friends have been affected in one way or another by a tragedy in need of their support. Luckily, they were able to benefit from the charity allowing them to either get back on their feet or creating funding to help in research. Surprisingly, The Susan G. Komen for the Cure (the charity known for its pink ribbon) ranked in number 40, but it still raised an impressionable large sum of monies for the year at $235 million.

We were so honored to have 3rd Element Spa and Salon as one of our Walk the Talk Exclusive Fashion Event. This full service spa located in the West Oak Lane area of Philadelphia, PA is a gem when you want to relax, unwind and get the beauty treatment that you know you deserve.

In 2005, 3rd Element Spa & Salon was founded by Chyvonne and Tomika from the Philadelphia area and since its inception and humble beginnings in a 12’ by 20’ space in the rear of an existing salon, 3rd Element has grown to become West Oak Lane’s premier full service spa and salon.

Tomika, Tweety, and Chyvonne

I had the opportunity to visit the salon and it has a wonderful ambiance. As soon as you walk in you feel welcomed by the staff especially the owners, Chyvonne and Tomika. The green room where you receive your full body massage treatment is so awesome and it allows you to receive your massage alone or with a partner.

Hey Fashionistas:

I know that you are use to me placing everyday, fun and fashionable Fashionistas that have a very uniques style every week, but this one is going to be a little different...

I would like to introduce to you a VERY FASHIONABLE and INSPIRATIONAL woman, that knows what to wear and how to wear it...

She has recently been added to my list of mentors for the following reasons:

1. She dresses very classy.

2. She has a very good heart and thinks about others.

3. She shares words of wisdom about fashion and life to young women that seek it, whether they are in the fashion industry, seeking to be in the fashion industry or not.

I could create a list that runs a mile long but I want you to see how my mentor, the creator of #1 Fashionista, Inc. does the dress game!!! Love her!!! So without further ado...

What inspires you?

What inspires me is the energy that fashion brings! The flow of fabrics, the shape and lines of a garment...AH-MAZING! And of course seeing how people wear certain looks and put their own flavor to it! Fashion ignites my life....

What makes you "Young, Hip and Chic"?

I think I'm "Young, Hip & Chic" because of my ability to embody the look I am carrying! It's very important to exude your style...make it authentic!

What should every Fashionista have?

My fashionista must-haves are:
  • Fabulous Shoes
  • A Statement Handbag
  • A Chic Pair Of Shades
  • Staple Jackets
  • And Lastly a daring sense of Confidence

What is your fashion motto?

My fashion motto is, "When the essence of your fashion emotes from within, you'll never go wrong! Every fashion statement is your individuality coming to life...."

Do you have a blog/website?

I am not really huge on blogging however I do have a #1 Fashionista Fan Page on FB.

I love your looks! My favorite would have to be the all white look. That is my favorite because not everyone has the guts to go for white day and night!!!

The Office of the City Representative, Center City District, and The Philadelphia Retail Marketing Alliance announced today that The Philadelphia Collection will return this fall season for it's 2nd year. The series of independently-produced fashion & style events will take place throughout the entire city of Philadelphia from September 12 to September 24! Cool right?

The Philadelphia Collection is an awesome collection of events in Philadelphia where retailers, stylists, designers, modeling agencies, design schools, etc get to show what makes them HOT to the fashion and style community to celebrate all things fashion in Philadelphia.

“Last year’s inaugural Philadelphia Collection achieved astonishing results. Not only did it help drive business to the city’s retailers and designers, but it turned a spotlight on our style community and significantly strengthened Philadelphia’s presence on the map of having a healthy and robust retail and design industry,” said Melanie Johnson, Office of the City Representative. “It was a no-brainer to bring the Collection back this fall.”

Hey Fashionistas:

It has been a long time coming and finally, I have found someone that I know is a perfect fashion fit to the YHC world!!! Please welcome my girl, Viva La Viral!!! Read more about her below...

Sassy, urban and energetic, Bria Goldwire aka Viva La Viral, has pursued creativity diligently.

Whether it was through drama, painting or simply personal style, she has used her art to make her mark as an individual. Due to her multi-ethnic background (primarily African-American and Hawaiian), she has become use to standing out at an early age. “I don’t dare to be different. I was born different. We all are. I dare to be myself. So many people try to stand out of the crowd but if Hollister and American Eagle are your twist, then that’s your style. Don’t change for anyone!” she says.
